Celebrating Award Win for Oral Heritage
I also congratulate Calypsonian Chalkdust for being honoured with the Order of the Trinity . It is an outstanding achievement for an oral social commentator in the oral tradition. Our LOL GloCal Knowledge Pt multimedia gallery and museum will showcase the development of the oral undocumented interconnected traditions of Global Local and Caribbean. Here’s Some information about the awards
NATIONAL AWARDS
There are five (5) categories and thirteen (13) classes of National Awards:
- The Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (formerly The Trinity Cross Medal of the Order of the Trinity) in Gold only
- The Chaconia Medal of the Order of the Trinity, in Gold, Silver and Bronze
- The Hummingbird Medal of the Order of the Trinity, in Gold, Silver and Bronze
- The Public Service Medal of Merit of the Order of the Trinity in Gold, Silver and Bronze
- The Medal for the Development of Women of the Order of the Trinity, in Gold, Silver and Bronze
Only citizens of Trinidad and Tobago are eligible for the award of the Public Service Medal of Merit.
Non-citizens of Trinidad and Tobago are eligible for all other awards.
Every citizen of Trinidad and Tobago, on being awarded a National Award, becomes a Member of the Order of the Trinity, of which the President is Chancellor.
Every non-citizen of Trinidad and Tobago, on being awarded the Order of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (Formerly ‘The Trinity Cross’), the Chaconia Medal or the Hummingbird Medal, on an honorary basis, becomes an Honorary Member of the Order.
All National Awards may be awarded posthumously, but a deceased recipient does not become a Member of the Order.
THE ORDER OF THE REPUBLIC OF TRINIDAD AND TOBAGO

This award replaced ‘The Trinity Cross’ in 2008 as the nation’s highest award.
Awarded only in gold, to no more than five (5) persons annually, it is awarded “to any person who has rendered distinguished and outstanding service to Trinidad and Tobago.”
THE CHACONIA MEDAL
This medal is awarded “to any person who has performed long and meritorious service to Trinidad and Tobago tending to promote the national welfare or strengthen the community spirit.”
Awarded to a maximum of ten (10) persons annually, the Chaconia Medal is awarded in Gold, Silver or Bronze in accordance with the National Awards Committee’s “assessment of the value of the recipient’s service to Trinidad and Tobago.”

THE HUMMING BIRD MEDAL
This medal is awarded “to any person who has rendered loyal and devoted service beneficial to Trinidad and Tobago in any field of human endeavour or for gallantry or other humane action.”
Awarded to a maximum of fifteen (15) persons annually, the Humming Bird Medal is awarded in Gold, Silver or Bronze in accordance with the National Awards Committee’s “assessment of the level of the service rendered by the recipient.”
THE PUBLIC SERVICE MEDAL OF MERIT
This medal is awarded “to any person who has rendered loyal and devoted service beneficial to Trinidad and Tobago in any field of human endeavour or for gallantry or other humane action.”
Awarded to a maximum of fifteen (15) persons annually, the Humming Bird Medal is awarded in Gold, Silver or Bronze in accordance with the National Awards Committee’s “assessment of the level of the service rendered by the recipient.”
THE MEDAL FOR THE DEVELOPMENT OF WOMEN
This medal is awarded for “Outstanding Contribution to the development of Women’s Rights and Issues.”
The Medal for the Development of Women is awarded in Gold, Silver and Bronze to a maximum of ten (10) persons a year.
