Technological/Social

While new technologies as smart phones might have the potential to bring peoples and communities closer together and instantaneously in touch, for the elderly it has also created a bewildering expansion in the intergenerational gap, age and socio-cultural distancing and social neglect. Many communities have been fast-losing traditional family community bonds with youths lost in their own-worlds of smart devices, leaving little or no time for connecting with others or the elderly. In this, they are deprived of the shared learnings and experiences of the elderly that came with traditional support family systems.

Ecological

Opportunities to utilise the new technologies, tools and devices beneficially limited, despite the widespread and growing access and availability to them.  This widespread availability, and reduced costs have the backlash of increasing pollution as old devices and accessories are abandoned. At the same time, many underprivileged do not have access to such devices and tools because of socio-economic access and lack of understanding of their broader uses for socio-economic advantage.
