Yes! It has been ten years since a group of young and not so young dreamers brought a book to life as LiTTerary Folk characters at the exquisite architectural cake, the WhiteHall with the launch LiTTscapes – Landscapes of Fiction and the associated LiTTours and LiTTributes. And we created a Revolution in Reading! (Watch Video in this Link
Reminisce with me as we go down memory lane over the last decade to show what one book can do.
Literature is Life! In every common and book sense
LiTTscapes was launched at Whitehall, the premiere of the Magnificent Seven heritage buildings, to celebrate heritage in all its dimensions – architecture, art, institutions, festivals, people, food, lifestyles, religion.
With it came LiTTours – Journeys Through the Landscapes of Fiction which engage youths and local communities in readings, as well as spotlight pertinent social, cultural, heritage and other issues.
LiTTours and LiTTributes are available by request only and are tailored to the your specific interests – any industry, age, sector or locale .
For the group of youngsters and their parents who joined us to dramatise elements of the book, it introduced them to the pleasures – and pains – of the creative sector and set the stage for some of their career paths. We have weathered many storms and surfed with many tides.
LiTTribute to the Republic
Following the rainy day launch at WhiteHall, the First Lady hosted Tea with LiTTscapes Author Dr Kris Rampersad and children of LiTTscapes, long with authors and musicians and guests, it was another funpacked day.
Around the World tributes
Over the past decade, LiTTscapes has been on an odyssey of LiTTours & LiTTributes locally and around the world, spotlighting matters of culture, heritage, literacy, education, gender equality, clean energy, climate change, risk management, sustainable development.
We joined world authors in the hallowed halls of authors of UNESCO.
LiTTribute to the Continental Mainland
The region wanted a reminder of our interconnections so we staged LiTTribute to the Continental Mainland in collaboration with the Moray House and the Guyana Drama Guild which read and dramatised sections of LiTTscapes. we looked at the umbilical links between island and the continent and explored what we share of the time when we were part of the continent that are still with us! . Head of the Guyana Prize for Literature Professor Al Creighton reviewed LiTTscapes which he described LiTTscapes as ‘A work of Art.’ Listen to the review in this link
LiTTribute to the Antilles
The islands beckoned and the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda with authors and the Young Poets’ Society hosted was to LiTTributes to the Antilles – Fragments of Epic Memory. And what a memorable occasion that was with spontaneous open mic and readings.
LiTTributes across UK, Europe, Americas, Canada
At LiTTribute to the Conquistadors, we joined students at the International University of Catalonia in Barcelona, delving into intangible cultural heritage and intercultural dialogue.
At LiTTribute to Toronto, we engaged with Mothers, MotherCultures and Motherlands, and my ABC Teacher surprised me too!
At LiTTribute to the Americas we joined the Diaspora to explore the contributions of migrants and, in the wake of the student shootings, drew attention to the value of reading in stemming violence and extremism.
LiTTribute to Londontown, went to London to revisit the Empire. BBC’s Ros Atkins shared his experiences of the multicultural traditions, along with author Lakshmi Persaud, Commonwealth Foundation Director Vijay Krishnarayan as we explored synergies with sustainable development and the creative sector. Soca News felt the whole experience was like ‘a good fete’ so we are serious fun, or fun! Serious! Because we believe learning and reading is fun!
