Feuding leaders from Latin America and the Caribbean, Guyana’s Dr Mohamed Irfaan Ali and Venezuela’s Nicolas Maduro Moros meet with other regional leaders to initiate dialogue towards peaceful resolution of the Venezuela-Guyana Border feud.
Interlocutor and host of the meeting is St Vincent and the Grenadines Dr Ralph Gonsalves, STVG Prime Minister and Pro Tempore Chair of CELAC – The Community of of Latin American and Caribbean States, partnering with the Caribbean Economic Community – CARICOM.
Common Developmental Concerns
President Dr Irfaan Ali has insisted that the matter of negotiating the borderline between Venezuela and Guyana is off the table, but will present a number of issues of common concern on which the parties will explore pathways to consensus as Climate Change, Food Security and other pertinent elements of Economic Development.
In this line, the meeting promises to set a new tone and the stage for focus on new sustainable development pathway for the region and an opportunity to explore common concerns.
New Agenda Issues
Demokrissy has tabled and anticipates that several issues that affect civil society and inhibit advancement in the areas of education, cultural heritage and the creative economy and impede advancement and development in the region will be included in the talks. This includes priorities of Digitisation, Information and Communication Technologies and opening up the field for the Creative Economy as well as deeper exploration of our interconnected heritage , histories and cultures towards revising colonial-based education systems.
