Yes! There is such a thing. Working in Heritage you could find yourself featured as a Calendar Girl. In the Case of the UNESCO World Heritage Calendar on Caribbean Heritage, Dr Kris Rampersad features as the January and December Calendar Girl with colleagues and associates in the field.
The year saw work in preparing UNESCO World Heritage nomination documents for Blue and John Crow Mountains, Jamaica and Antigua and Barbuda Dockyards. Both were successfully nominated for UNESCO World Heritage. Kudos to the hard work and dedication of the national committees who, in collaboration with our international and regional efforts were able to put the Caribbean on the map for World Heritage!
For me, it was most fulfilling to further explore the myriad multicultural communities of the Caribbean. I remain humbled at being invited into the brotherhood and sisterhood of the hideouts of the Maroon community of Jamaica – the first freed slaves who paved the way for ending slavery and subsequent Emancipation of slaves in the Caribbean!
We continue to struggle for freedom for our Caribbean people – freedom from the mental enslavement that persist as we reclaim lost heritage!
