Dr Kris Rampersad in tete a tete with Caribbean Nobel Laureate for Literature Sir Vidia Naipaul
Spread the love
Today we celebrate Nobel Laureate, Sir Vidya Naipaul’s birthday. He would have been 91. Born in central Trinidad’s yet to be named city of Chaguanas on August 17, 1932, Sir Vidia rode on his father’s wish for him to be a writer – Letters Between Father and Son – his own love of reading and writing to challenged the colonial status quo in a manner that had even the neo-colonials squirming under their armours of psuedo-liberation clad in the garb of mental slavery.
He died on August 11, 2018. His works and his words live on!
Experimentation with new forms
Naipaul was constantly experimenting with new literary forms to the point of declaring the end of the novel. This is exemplified in his use of mixed forms and genres in his later works. It is such innovations that inspired my creation of the newest creative genre, the Multimedia Microepic which adapts the classical long form epic for the digital age.
Particular insights into the works of Naipaul is treated in LiTTscapes -Landscapes of Fiction along withthe works and lifestyles, cultures, fiction and folklore of more than 100 other writer.
