The hills are ablaze with the blooms of the Immortelle and the invitation to dance into 2026 on the landscapes of The Sound of Music.
It spills over from the tones of the year past, when I was immersed in the lands that continue to tap into original sound, echoing in noisy jubilance into infinity.
So you would understand why I want my first notes of this year to be uplifting lilts of optimism.
And you would understand why I choose, first, to celebrate the vivacity of these hilltops.
This new knowledge ecosystem is about journalism and media remembering what it was always meant to be, as an architect of public intelligence, guardian of collective memory and catalyst for structural change.

Tsunamis of Change
And you would understand why, savouring this moment, I shelf, temporarily, the 2025 year-end reviews of the bile churned up from tsunami tides of change:
– On the death knell sounded on the old and tottering global order, scrambling to hold its shard of respectability together (did anyone really see that UN Security meeting in the wake of the US arrest of Venezuelan Maduro???) Stay tuned.
– On the shifting sands of journalism, evoked from a year-end reunion with colleagues from my tooth-cutting cub reporting, script generation, foot-wetting in print journalism, then television news production, and the collapse of Newsday, a newspaper I helped found, whose first words wore my face and byline on its inaugural lead story. – On CARICOM’s tectonic fracturing, born of self-sustained faults along the divisive rifts colonisation left and its neo-colonial inheritors nurtured, wallowing in its so-oft-repeated-that-it-believes-its-own fake truths and imposed fantasy of paradisiacal touristic illusion, even as it tempestuously stamps on its own vivacious diversity. The Regional Block is clearly in need of expert facilitation(call meh nah) to look into itself and its insitutions. After reading this trilogy, painstakingly prepared to shed light on and aid in defense of the Zone of Peace, and help it decide how it wishes to emerge fortified to face the global challenges ahead!
That this morning has come was foretold in too-oft-ignored thought-scapes, including the warning sounded by Nobel Laureate Derek Walcott:

Did you think I meant her? LOL).

For now, I look only to what 2026 promises, and to the certainty of change in shifting global currents.
Rising to the Challenge to Media
For this year, I shout in celebration of the realisation of proof of concept – the GloCal Knowledge Pot of my Knowledge Research Information Services & Resources-Leaves of Life knowledge ecosystem that interlocks media, education and cultural systems into an Intelligence Infrastructure. Its reach to decision-makers more than ten times the population of this island, directly to local-to-global think tanks, leaders, and decision-makers, affirms the years of crafting a model of free and independent expression and media that defies the countless hurdles placed in its path by now-toppling corporate and partisan frames. This year promises its full realisation and local to global adoption as we fortify for the emerging challenges of AI, fakism and disconnect along lines of fractures.
It was one of the offsprings of the vision we shared on the cover of the Prospectus of Newsday at its inception as a social contract for a new era of social transformation, before it was seized by tentacles stretching from the dark underside of the Stranger Things that envelope our particular national time-warped, petro-cursed socio-political and economic reality.
This year onward, we are sure to see more wheels of exploitative industries and extractive technologies grinding to a halt, replaced with culturally rooted intelligence that injects ethics, sovereignty, and dignity with meaning beyond hollow rhetoric.
Celebrating the Power of One
Rising from the ashes to dance on these hills ablaze, I celebrate The Power of One.
Through the GloCal Knowledge Pot and its ecosystem of knowing, I pay homage to the internet as its pioneers envisaged it – a creative portal to fields of emerging possibilities.
I celebrate the strength that new media lent to my own endeavours to secure cherished independence, sovereignty, and autonomy, evolving a creative identity sprung from ancestral roots that spread across and unite continents.
And I celebrate entering another influential global community to reshape future thought for creatives. More than another feather in a cap of fellows that began with the Foreign Press Centre of Japan, the Nuffield Foundation to Wolfson (Journalism) College, Cambridge, ITEC at the Indian Institute of Mass Communication, and the Commonwealth Professional Fellowship, this one sends me dancing on hills alive with The Sound of Music. Renaissance Rebirth Renewal
From the phenomenal renewal of bathing with divinity when the planets aligned during the Mahakumbh Mela at the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj, streaming with returned sons and daughters of diaspora, flowing with merged riverine energies of Ganga and Yamuna, carrying the sacred memory of Saraswati.

Free Expression in a Minefield
Let’s face the Elephant in the Room!
Media reform conversations often orbit around technology, revenue models, or audience engagement. They rarely confront the central danger: The deliberate and systemic seeding of minefields against free and independent expression. Partisan pressure. Corporate influence. Gatekeeping through access. Subtle blacklisting. Quiet strangulation of income streams.
For those of us carrying the mandate for transformative agendas, seeking to widen space for ostracised majorities, women, rural communities, and “beyond-the-lighthouse” geopolitical jurisdictions, the mediascape is especially treacherous. Neutrality is not protection. Silence buys survival. Truth demands courage and a long Lifeline. My career in media can testify and solutions do not come from quick fixes and tech-fads, but staying the course, and that my long view of history endorses. This goes beyond the rhetoric of narratie change to the realisation of it. And it is this that I celebrate!
New Visionary Knowledge as Infrastructure
Demokrissy, this blog, now part of the GloCal Knowledge Pot, emerged directly from interference with my spaces for free expression and opinion. It was a refusal to surrender voice. But it soon became clear that individual platforms, however resilient, were insufficient. Its success represent unique strategies and models to circumvent such hurdles, interference, hindrances and constant manoeuvring around attempts to cut-off income and resources, like the more than ten-year attempt at strangulation of the aligned NGO Leaves of Life by withholding the registration certificate which inhibited its ability to open a bank account or receive funding support for growth. Imagine how stronger our landscapes would have been were it not for such diabolic intents to stifle diversification and growth of our knowledge, creative and cultural sectors.
It became clear to me that more than just creative content- and I continue to produce lots of that, with cutting edge innovations in content as the MultiMedia MicroEpic, AuthenTHINK Intel and AI AnalyEthics, ad Demokrissy itself. But more than that, what is needed is revisioning intelligence and infrastructure and investments that respond to that and not as the piecemeal patronage that is force-fed to us to survive and which propelled the collapse of conventional media into which I delve in Autopsy and Requiem that follows! Both of these expose how experience is far different from the official and public narratives and perceptions, which of course loop back to skewed notions of sovereignty, autonomy and independence.
From Platform to Knowledge Architecture
The broader infrastructure within which these resources are channeled, this GloCal Knowledge Pot grew from a deeper realisation that :
Media is no longer just a messenger. It is now a central pillar of the knowledge ecosystem. More on this Stay Tuned.
In a world where information shapes policy, markets, culture, and consciousness, journalism must be embedded inside systems that support:
Knowledge creation, Knowledge validation, Knowledge transmission, Knowledge preservation, and I have been developing models and frames for this.
It must be aligned with education and culture, not siloed away from them. It is the Raison d’Etre of The GloCal Knowledge Pot and the satellite of offerings under my Knowledge Research Information Services and Resources-Leaves of Life.
Radical Departure
As my radical exit from conventional media, this represents a radical departure from colonially entrenched separation-of-powers models that fracture systems at the foundation and render intersectionality, inter-institutionality, and partnership largely performative. Stories do not disappear after publication. They become datasets. They feed archives. They inform curricula. They shape policy intelligence. News shifts from being an endpoint to being a gateway.
Reclaiming Democracy
The GloCal Knowledge Pot reclaims time as a democratic resource. Time to research. Time to contextualise. Time to revisit, reflect, analyse. Time to connect patterns across decades. This is not nostalgia for a slower age. It is futurism. Because journalism without memory becomes spectacle.
A Triumphant Rennaissance for BOSS-SIDS
The emergence of the GloCal Knowledge Pot is triumphant not because it is perfect, or complete, or immune to struggle. It is triumphant because it exists, against all the odds and the minefields that continue to explode in its chosen path, including starvation from funding.
But the Glocal Knowledge Pot refutes the lie that small states cannot build big thinking systems; that post-colonial societies cannot author our own futures. It treats journalism not as a dying industry, but as a civilisational necessity.
Living Proof
The GloCal Knowledge Pot and its knowledge ecosystem is living proof of The Power of One!
This is not a departure from journalism. It is journalism remembering what it was always meant to be, as an architect of public intelligence, guardian of collective memory and catalyst for structural change.
In an oil-cursed, patriarchally blinkered, colonially haunted society, conditioned into amnesia and mindless forgetfulness, that remembering is revolutionary.
And revolution, in this moment, is infrastructure.
From Demokrissy to the GloCal Knowledge Pot
The blog Demokrissy initially emerged as a response to navigate interference from shrinking space for independent opinion, critique, and dissent within formal traditional media environment.
Miles ahead of touted citizen journalism, it gained traction, endorsed as a pioneering platform for development policy blogging for new media by global development partners. Not only cutting edge news analyses, it deepened the notion of blogging to as opinion and commentary to connect development silos, serving multiple functions of education, advocacy and outreach, feeding knowledge and awareness on grassroots issues from ground perspectives to think tanks, agenda setting local to global machinery and decision makers. Social media had not yet fully hijacked and commercialized reach and influence as SEO manipulation and algorithm-determined click-baits.
Housed today at the Global Knowledge Pot, it stands as a model of direct interface circumventing political and partisan intimidation of those who signal interest.
Its core mode of taking ground issues directly to decision-makers, through private hassle-free interface and engagement, removed from the noise of social media continues to stand against increasing SEO and Algorithmic bias against less-dominant voices, regions and small states.
The GLoCaL Knowledge Pot, itself built on self-funding, when potential sponsors shied away in fear of reprisal, won recognition in the innovation Lumination Challenge for its platform concept, Tradition Nets Technologies. Starved off funds that would have allowed for quicker development of the public interface elements which were curtailed owing to officially-sponsored hack and other interference, including withholding of the certificate of the NGO registered to power it and so denying ability to register a bank account or source funding.
Undeterred, I focused on building out the envisioned multifunctional elements that will strengthen the superstructure that will give this new brand of journalism the freedom to be. The era of media’s full engagement in its role to educate was accelerating at warp speed, propelled by the necessity for online education with the Pandemic lockdown. I created the MultiMedia MicroEpic, named as the world’s newest creative genre to demonstrate that there could be so much more to the education-media nexus than turning dog-eared lecture notes into PDFs animated by ridiculous mascots, as education institutions scrambled to come to grips with this disruption. Incidentally, even in the midst of this fracturing, I was informed by the university that building that media-education alliance was ‘not its priority’ at that time.
It only spurred me to do the ground work and so I developed CEIBA-EDUtainment as a form and frame that will remove the yawn from online education, using tech tools while retaining depth and foundations in knowledge transfer techniques of traditional storytellers who weaved story yarns at the roots of and under spreading branches of CEIBA trees across regions of the Global South.
Every moment of threat, intimidation, dismissal or indifference spurred a new invention or innovation. Today, as technologists are twisting minds to conform to their noise of Artificial Intelligence, AI is acclaiming my developing frameworks for AuthenTHINK Intel and AI AnalyEthics as the missing links of lived human experiences that would fill the inadequacies of its technical frames – ask it! (more on this later)
Undermining diversification of the media landscape inhibited growth that could have absorbed any number of media workers and other creatives being shown the door from conventional media’s bewildered scramble to adjust to the shifting media sands.
The surfacing defense is laughable, in every dimension, because vision and imagination are all it would have take to those rolling in material resources to turn the tides for the creative sector.
There could have been much room for, but there has been no time for regrets. If the official interference had allow for growth the platform would have readily absorbed scores.
If opinion was left to blossom and flourished, and not narrowed and skewed by favoured ‘opinion leaders’ selected only because they conform to the divisive agendas, decision-makers would have the insights or conscience-jabs to redirect and reroute. But the ouroboros snapping its tail is bound to consume itself at some time and the part of media self -destruction and self-annhilation was already laid and predictably, Suicide has become the sad last word on News of the Day, as it was, in a very different tone, its first.
